Best Things to Do on an Amalfi Coast Honeymoon

If there’s one place that really knows how to do romance, it’s the Amalfi Coast. Winding cliffside drives and afternoons spent drifting on a boat, Aperol spritz in hand. It’s glamourous, yes, but in that wonderfully effortless way.

I’ve been fortunate to visit the Amalfi Coast numerous times, and the novelty never fades. But where to begin? Here are my recommendations of the best things to do on an Amalfi Coast honeymoon to make the most of your time together.

1. Experience the Amalfi Coast from the sea

The beautiful Amalfi Coast taken from boat on boat trip

The Amalfi Coast is stunning from every angle, but it’s from the water that it truly steals your heart. I’ve never taken as many photos as when I took a boat trip along the coast, and still none of them quite did it justice. Every turn is even more beautiful than the last.

One of the loveliest ways to experience the coast from the sea is with this scenic boat tour from Positano. With no more than 10 guests, it feels intimate yet social, and the traditional wooden gozzo boat makes the whole experience authentically Amalfi. You can sip prosecco in the sunshine, swim in secluded bays, and sail past landmarks like the Grotta di Sant’Andrea, Lovers’ Arch and the dramatic Furore Fjord. If you opt for the longer cruise you’ll also have time to step ashore and stroll the beautiful streets of Amalfi. It’s an experience that feels made for a honeymoon!

2. Amalfi Sunset cruise with dinner

Continuing with the boat theme, but upping the romance factor even further is an Amalfi sunset cruise with dinner, a must do on any honeymoon. Set sail from Amalfi in the late afternoon and enjoy the coast during its most magical hour as the sky is painted in shades of gold and rose.

The highlight though is pulling into the bay of Santa Croce, only accessible by boat, where a table is waiting for you by the water’s edge. You’ll enjoy traditional Campanian dishes, paired with local wine before sailing back under the stars. It’s simple, authentic and impossibly romantic.

3. Day trip to Capri

Moving this towards the top of the list because whenever I’m asked if Capri is worth a visit, my answer is always 100% yes. Each time I’ve visited I’ve fallen a little more in love. Yes, it’s popular, yes it can be expensive and overcrowded, especially in the peak summer months, but it’s all for very good reason! It really is beautiful and effortlessly chic. If crowds aren’t your thing, I would recommend only visiting in the shoulder seasons like June or September.

For the perfect day trip to Capri, I’d recommend a small-group boat tour from Positano. It’s a smooth, relaxed way to get to the island, passing by hidden beaches, the Li Galli islands, and iconic spots like the Faraglioni rocks.

Once on Capri, take the chairlift up to Anacapri for stunning panoramic views, wander the charming streets of Capri town, and soak up the island’s glamorous atmosphere. Stop for a leisurely lunch at a local café, browse boutique shops, or simply enjoy a gelato while people-watching in a sun-drenched piazza.

Once back onboard your boat there’s time to visit the Green Grotto, Punta Carena and the famous Blue Grotto. It’s a perfect mix of sightseeing, shopping, and soaking up that famous Capri charm.

4. Sunset Aperitivo in Positano

Back on dry land, you don’t have to book a boat tour to enjoy the Amalfi Coast’s stunning sunsets. One of my favourite spots is Positano. Claim a table at a cliffside bar just before sunset, order a chilled glass of prosecco or a classic Aperol Spritz (or both) and watch as the whole town is bathed in that dreamy golden light.

Top recommendations for places in Positano to watch the sun set:

Franco’s Bar

Perhaps Positano’s coolest meeting place, Franco’s Bar is effortlessly chic, with incredible sea views and cocktails that are just as stylish as the setting. What I like the most is you’ll never see a ‘reserved’ sign on their tables as their motto is ‘No reservations needed. No reservations taken.’ This does make planning a little trickier but get there early and settle in for the evening.
Franco’s Bar is open from April – October (weather permitting).

Il tridente at hotel poseidon

A little more relaxed but with equally breathtaking views across the town and coastline, Il Tridente is in the centre of Positano with a restaurant and cocktail bar. It’s a very popular spot so reservations are a must, with bookings open 14 days prior – it’s highly recommended to plan in advance.

Aldo’s Cocktail Bar & Seafood Grill

Located at the luxurious Le Sirenuse Hotel in Positano, this is the ultimate romantic splurge. Serving champagne and oysters along with other elegant dishes and cocktails it’s a glamourous and stylish setting with stunning views over the bay. While it’s part of the hotel, no room key is needed – the bar welcomes everyone (although note there is a minimum spend of around €50 per person). Book ahead to get a table with the best views, especially for sunsets as the terrace fills up fast. If you’re early or visiting off-peak, a spontaneous visit may still get you a prime spot.

5. Explore Pompeii & Herculaneum

For a touch of history and a fascinating day out, a visit to Pompeii is a must, but I’d highly recommend combining it with Herculaneum. While Pompeii is undeniably impressive, Herculaneum is smaller, much quieter, and remarkably well-preserved, giving you a more intimate glimpse into life during Roman times.

You’ll want to wear comfy shoes, as there’s a lot of walking over cobbled streets and uneven surfaces. To make the most of your visit (and avoid aimlessly wandering), consider booking a guided tour like this one from Amalfi, which also includes skip-the-line tickets. A knowledgeable guide can bring the ruins to life with stories about the people, culture, and the fateful eruption of Mount Vesuvius which you’d likely miss exploring on your own.

6. Private Cooking Class – Make Fresh Pizza

For something more hands-on (and seriously tasty), a pizza-making class is a must – like this Pizza & Mozarella Class with Farmhouse visit.

You’ll tour lemon groves and gardens, learn how to stretch and top your own dough, then bake it in a wood-fired oven overlooking the sea. And the reward is a long lunch in the garden with your homemade pizza, local wine, and a splash of limoncello. It’s relaxed, so much fun, and a surprisingly romantic way to spend an afternoon together.

7. Amalfi Dolce Vita Tour

For couples who want to channel pure Dolce Vita vibes, a tour of the Amalfi Coast in a vintage Fiat 500 is hard to beat. With a private driver at the wheel, you can sit back, relax, and soak up the scenery while winding through cliffside roads that overlook beautiful bays and pastel-painted villages. It’s the kind of experience that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a 1960s Italian film.

What makes this extra special is the flexibility. Your driver can tailor the day to your pace – stopping at hidden viewpoints for those all-important honeymoon photos, pulling over for a leisurely glass of prosecco, or enjoying a traditional Italian breakfast in a tucked-away café.

Each turn reveals a new stunning view, and being chauffeured means you don’t have to worry about navigating the famously winding roads.

8. Day Trip to Ravello

If you’re not staying in Ravello for your Amalfi Coast honeymoon, I would highly recommend a visit there. Perched high above the coastline, Ravello is a peaceful escape with breathtaking gardens at Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. Pack a picnic and enjoy a leisurely stroll.

Or if you’re looking for something a little more active you could enjoy the most beautiful trails of Ravello, which meets at the square in Ravello with a trek though the most authentic villages and mountain trails of the Amalfi Coast.

9. Hike the Path of the Gods

If you’re feeling adventurous, the Sentiero degli Dei, or Path of the Gods, is an unforgettable way to experience the Amalfi Coast. The trail runs high above the cliffs from Bomerano to Nocelle, with sweeping views of Capri, the Gulf of Salerno, and villages tumbling down the mountainside.

The hike itself takes around 3.5 – 4 hours and is mostly downhill, weaving through shaded woodland and rocky paths. The trail ends in Nocelle, Positano where you can take the 1800 steps down to Positano or catch the local bus.

While it’s perfectly doable without a guide, joining a small guided walk can make the experience even more enjoyable, with local stories and the reassurance that someone knows the way.

10. Journey through local wines

If you love good food and even better wine, an evening of wine tasting in Positano is a honeymoon must. Set in the intimate Wine Room at the Eden Roc Hotel, you’ll be guided by local sommelier Luigi through a handpicked selection of Italian wines, each paired perfectly with cheeses, jams, and little bites that bring out every flavour.

This experience is fun, approachable, and filled with stories about the grapes, regions, and traditions behind every glass. The setting itself is refined yet cosy – definitely one to add to your honeymoon list.
